A study on media consumption was done. It revealed that the daily media intake has soared to more than 4 hours since the global pandemic has hit us compared with an average of a 1.5-hour media consumption pre-shutdown period. The telecom companies have also seen a 30% spike in data usage since the nation has been put under lockdown that began on March 25 to contain the spread of coronavirus. Since the pandemic, the news channels or media, in general, has been flooding with reports regarding the coronavirus; they have been flashing headlines about the number of deaths this deadly virus has lead to, the confused and hopeless families and people deprived of a bed in the hospital for serious covid patients to even healthcare workers struggling to cremate the bodies as all the crematoriums are occupied with people who lost their lives from this virus. But, what does the media wants to convey from all this? Is it that the nation’s facing a hard time! But, we'll know that and is there something the media can do to change this whole point of view and help people?

Given below are some ways by which the media or you personally can bring a change or a positive impact on the nation and help people save lives and spread awareness —

  1. Take interviews with covid warriors and ask them questions regarding their recovery journey to raise more awareness.
  2. Provide people with information about oxygen cylinders and where can they easily check for the availability.
  3. By making a database of plasma donors to help people who are looking for them.
  4. Contacting nearby hospitals to check for the availability of beds so that lives can be saved.
  5. You can even check for accurate ambulance services and share them so it can reach out to people in need.
  6. You can share all the information you have on media platforms to create awareness and save lives!

There are so many ways to make media a much safer place to invest time in but, all the media wants to do is create a tense and dreadful atmosphere. Nowadays, people are so scared even to watch the news, and there are people out there who are suffering from media anxiety due to all the negativity the nation is being surrounded by.

In my opinion, it’s high time now, and we are the only ones who can bring the change and even be the change!

Thank you, and I hope everyone’s safe and doing well and remember, “Phases you are going through are terrible, but life isn’t!”

As always, you can drop your valuable suggestions and feedbacks in the comment section:)
